Unductive Reasoning: The Fake Biden Speech

Deductive reasoning is when you take all the facts / evidence, put them together, and come to a conclusion. Inductive reasoning is when you take all the facts / evidence and from them reach a likely conclusion being able to fill in some probably holes.

What do we call it when you work backwards from a bullshit conclusion to determine "what the facts must be?" The Omnivore will call it: Unductive Reasoning.

This is Rush Limbaugh yesterday:

Some people are of the opinion that it had to be taped and that it had to be taped in segments, and the segments had to be edited together because Plugs [Biden] is not capable of 22 minutes even reading a prompter with no screw ups. This is the prevailing theory. I have heard from some professional video people who say that they have studied it, they’re trying to find out if it was tape or live, based on the premise that there isn’t any evidence that Joe Biden has the ability to go 22 minutes even on a prompter without making a mistake, without some kind of a flub.

John Cardillo, super-stupid pundit on the right, jumps with with the ever-popular "I'm not a conspiracy theory--but"

Trump, on the 17th (before Biden spoke) speculated that Biden might tape his speech.

What's Going On?

Well, Rush spells it out pretty plainly:

I’ll tell you what this tells me. This tells me that a lot of people think this was awesome last night. A lot of people are worried about it because it was so damn good. I mean, just based on the feedback I’m getting, like some of these people that want to know, did they do that in one take or was it a series of takes? That was perfection. How did they do that? I mean, it means they’re worried about it.

And they’re worried about it from the standpoint of expectations. The expectations were set so low, nobody thought Biden was gonna be able to do what he did last night, and yet he did it. So, now those people who are concerned and worried he was able to do it, now they want to know how, ’cause they don’t think Biden can do what he did last night. Yet, there it is. He did it. It was either live or it was on tape. We don’t know.

Yes, a lot of people, it seems, are worried--the narrative, started in Bernie-land, was that Joe Biden was months or weeks away from a complete mental collapse. Deceptive video had him wandering away from the cameras during a speech (like he didn't know where he was) and gaffe-super-cuts made him look ridiculous.

The Berners, susceptible to disinformation, ate it up and really believed that Joe, on the stage with Bernie, wouldn't be able to stand. When he stood, they were upset--furious--and had no one to blame but themselves.

Now the GOP seems to be falling into the same tar-pit. The Omnivore can't call it a trap because there's nothing Biden is doing to make himself look mentally infirm (well, the gaffes--but he's not doing that intentionally). No, this is home-grown wish-casting that has taken over the right wing who are chomping at the bit for a Biden-Trump showdown.

The Omnivore thinks they may be disappointed.

  1. Biden may not be the most polished politician out there, but he looks like Winston freaking Churchill next to President Cheeto von Tweeto. What’s coming won’t be pretty, but I take comfort in the fact that a wise entity — a “lizard person”, no less! — predicted it all long ago:

the ticking that you hear in the dark and quiet places
Is the IGUANA getting near, crouching low and counting paces.
The feeling that you get when you know that you’re alone
Is the IGUANA’s static hisss telling you that something’s wrong.

and if the hour’s getting longer, but everything is slowing down
It means the danger’s getting stronger. It means the IGUANA is around.
And you can run, and you can fight but your back’s against the wall.

And as the day turns into night, you’ll hear the IGUANA in the hall.

Great stuff. Decades earlier, this is what we had to work with:

“Who knows the end? What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise. Loathsomeness waits and dreams in the deep, and decay spreads over the tottering cities of men.”
